On Pentecost Sunday, Archbishop Rozanski issued a decree concerning the Basilica of Saint Louis, King of France, Parish
Effective August 1, 2023, the Basilica of Saint Louis, King of France, Parish will be both a personal and a territorial parish:
▪ The membership of the Basilica of Saint Louis is drawn from throughout the Archdiocese of
St. Louis.
▪ The Basilica of Saint Louis is assuming territory of the former Saint John the Apostle and Evangelist Parish.
▪ It is important that pastoral care be provided to Saint John the Evangelist Parish.
▪ The Reverend Nicholas Smith who is currently assigned as rector to provide care at the Basilica of Saint Louis Parish will continue to do so. He will continue as Director of the Office of Sacred Worship for the Archdiocese of St. Louis.
▪ Father Peter Fonseca, who is continuing as Director of Continuing Formation of Priests and who is assigned to pursue graduate studies, is assigned residence at the Basilica of Saint Louis.
▪ Father Charles Samson, who is in residence at the Basilica of Saint Louis, is reassigned to Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Webster Groves, Missouri.
Any member of the parish who claims to have been aggrieved by this Decree has the right to ask me to change my decision. This request must be made in writing and postmarked no later than June 12, 2023, to me at the Cardinal Rigali Center (20 Archbishop May Drive, St. Louis, Missouri 63119).
