The "Jubilee Year of Hope" in 2025, declared by Pope Francis, is a special year focused on renewing hope, with the theme "Pilgrims of Hope.” This Holy Year encourages Catholics to undertake pilgrimages, acts of charity, and deepen their relationship with God through prayer and reflection, with the central idea of finding hope even in difficult times. The year officially began on December 24, 2024, with the opening of the Holy Door at the St. Peter's Basilica in Rome and will continue until the closing of the Jubilee Year on January 6, 2026..
The faithful, Pilgrims of Hope, in the Archdiocese of St. Louis will be able to obtain the Jubilee Indulgence granted by Pope Francis if they undertake a pious pilgrimage to any sacred Jubilee sites. There are nine officially designated pilgrimage sites in the archdiocese, and we are honored that the Basilica of Saint Louis, King (Old Cathedral) was chosen to be one of them.
LEARN MORE Information is available in the back of the Basilica including an explanation of pilgrimages, works of mercy and penance, explanation of a plenary indulgence and how to gain one, listing of pilgrimage sites in the archdiocese, and a holy card of the official Jubilee Prayer.
